St. Nicholas Parish Church in Prato alla Drava

The church was first mentioned in 1507, but most likely goes back to a pre-Romanesque roofed hall from the 12th century. In 1821, the Gothic ribs were removed from the vault. Of the original fresco decoration only the Coronation of Mary and the depiction of the legend of St. Nicholas remain.

Churches usually form the centre of their villages and towns. The parish church of Prato alla Drava, however, is built outside the town on a hill with beautiful views. The path is lined with a way of the cross with four wayside shrines and wooden figures from around 1700.
The church was Gothicised and extended around 1500. The altars, pulpit and confessionals date from the early 19th century and reflect a lively, rural Baroque style.
