About MIK - Chapter Museum

Introducing the Board of Trustees

The MIK Chapter Museum is run by the Board of Trustees "Kuratorium Stiftsmuseum Innichen", a voluntary organisation. It was founded on 19 June 2007 in San Candido and aims to maintain and preserve the religious and cultural heritage of San Candido collegiate church.
The association was recognised as a legal entity under private law by decree of the Governor 165/1.1 of 26.06.2008 and entered in the relevant provincial register.
On 1 October 2020 and 27 May 2021, the statutes of the association were adapted to the government regulations on the third sector. Since then, the association has been called "Kuratorium Stiftsmuseum Innichen EO” [Board of Trustees Chapter Museum San Candido Registered Association]
The aims of the association have remained the same: "Collection, care and visibility of the historical, cultural and religious heritage of San Candido".
The association was included in the list of voluntary organisations by decree of the provincial governor 14451/2021 of 13.08.2021. Since 7 November 2022, it has been a member of the RUNTS (National Single Register of the Third Sector), no. 327616.

Our vision
The world has changed a lot since the Chapter Museum was founded 40 years ago. The analogue world is increasingly becoming digital. Museums are not exempt from this; they are becoming "phygital", i.e. the physical and the digital are becoming intertwined.

With the help of technical tools such as 3D glasses and augmented reality, visitors to the Chapter Museum can look over Duke Tassilo's shoulder as he signs the deed of donation or talk to the giant Baranci about the construction of the collegiate church.

But such museum-like videogaming is not our goal. The old should not become a quickly consumed world of experience. Rather, we want to take something from the old world into our today, for the tomorrow. We want to cross-reference and connect. Last year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) added the following aspect to the objectives of museum activities: Museums enable reflection, knowledge exchange and participation.

The Chapter Museum will therefore change, and change constantly. Not a rigid, but a flexible permanent exhibition and a special exhibition that addresses a wide variety of topics: The archives of the chapter and the cathedral treasury are an inexhaustible source of the most diverse topics that affect us all, then, now and in the future.

What once was the Abbey Museum now becomes the MIK - the CHAPTER MUSEUM. The chapter is the community of canons; the chapter is a piece of San Candido's history. The museum is right in the centre.
